Week 7 Reflections
The habit of the 7 Habits that had the greatest impact on me as I read was Habit number 3: Put first things first. Ever since I read it the other night, I have been trying to evaluate how I'm using my time. Am I putting urgent, non important things first? Or even worse-Non urgent, non important things first? I have realized I do a lot of nonimportant things first in my life and that's not great, no matter how I frame it to justify it. And as I have thought about this, I have realized how the church and gospel ask us to put non urgent, important things first. These things include reading scriptures, saying our prayers morning and night, serving others willingly through ministering, fulfilling callings, etc, etc. These things are super important, but don't have deadlines, except self imposed ones. And no one is giving us a grade. So it can be hard to make time for them, and to make sure they get done in a time frame that they really should be done. And to establish regular patterns for non urgent, important things, is especially challenging. But in a great way.
This is important to me right now because I have 6 kids 8 years old and younger. I am also in the Relief Society presidency and have a marriage I want to invest in, and going to school as well. If I don't juggle these right with how I use my nap time alone time, or if I don't make time for my calling, I just don't get the things done I need to. But when I do these things like scriptures and prayer, regularly, I am able to do so much better. But they aren't pressing concerns, and so sometimes I forget. Anyways, to sum this up, I want to do better at really making sure I spend more time in the nonurgent, but important box. And school and my calling can fit in there as well if I don't procrastinate. Then I can do them in a nonurgent way, while they maintain their importance for me to do. If that makes sense. This has made me reevaluate how I operate in my life at times. And has motivated me to make some changes, and be more proactive (habit number 1) in my life.
These habits are a great motivation to me right now. I feel like I'm in a pivotal place in my life for these to really help me make a difference. I am ready to make changes in how I spend my time, and these are a great resource and guide on how to be the most effective I can be. Because honestly, I have big dreams, and a big personal life with lots of people I want to invest in and make a priority, so if I can really apply these habits and actually make them habits in my life, I can really be more effective and not just efficient. I love that they give me hope that I can get where I want to and have not just personal victories within myself and my own life, but hopefully someday apply these to a business I start and have public victories as well.
