Week 10 Reflections
This week something that really stuck out to me was the message of trusting those you work with. And showing them that you trust them. I think this is huge. I often think about that. I know for me, I really need to be trusted and expected to do well or I won't. I have a hard time when someone doesn't think I can do it. Sometimes that motivates me to prove them wrong, but most of the time I just find myself feeling depressed and down. So to really find people who maybe aren't in the best place with their resume, and show them that you believe they are ready for the job, capable of doing a great job with it, and that you trust them to do it, is important.
I especially feel this because a major goal I have for my corporation I'm going to build someday (hopefully) is to have different locations around that really help those who could use good jobs and just don't have the opportunities. When we lived in Texas there were many Hispanics living in our town and they mostly worked entry level jobs or in the meat processing plants on either side of our town. They wanted to be near their families in our tiny town, but there weren't many opportunities. And while they didn't have a ton of education for many reasons, I really believe they were capable of GREATNESS if they had the chance. I think many minority groups are like that. With so many systems in place in our country that oftentimes make it harder for them to succeed, I want to go in and really help them become who they are meant to become with good paying jobs, flexible schedules to allow them more time with their families, trust, and leadership opportunities. I also feel this about people who have gotten out of prison. I think more often than not, like that one guy said in his last speech that we listened to, when we give people enough time, they will almost ALWAYS surprise us with their abilities and talents.
And I loved hearing them talk about achieving and becoming great. It is no harder to be great than good. And with God our goals are always possible. And I love the example of places like Pixar and Google that give their employees time to create and find new ideas with free time. That is really inspiring and shows we ALL need time to create and not be on a schedule. It helps us all achieve greater heights in our lives.
